Can You Speak… Rotating Header Image

Changing your perspective

It’s hard to avoid some exposure to the media in your country. Whether you believe what they say or not is another question. An interesting example of this is a recent speech made by none other than the US’s beloved George W. Bush. The NY Times focuses almost exclusively on the decision to send more troops to Iraq in order to help out. There is one paragraph in the article that reads as follows:

He also offered his most direct acknowledgment of error in an American-led war that has lasted nearly four years and claimed more than 3,000 American lives. “Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility lies with me,” he said. Source - NY Times

The Spanish newspaper, El Pais, headline reads: “Bush asume la responsabilidad de todos los ‘errores’ de Irak,” which translates to “Bush assumes the responsibility for all the ‘errors’ in Iraq.” Source - El Pais

So which media do you believe? Which spin is more accurate? We live in a time where we have some much information at our fingertips through the Internet, maybe it’s time we started deciding for ourselves and using our own brains.
