Chinglish to be banned from Beijing Olympics

I found this article a while ago and use it for a laugh in my English classes. For those that don’t know, Chinglish is when Chinese gets poorly translated into English. It’s quite prevalent when you’re travelling round China and always amusing. Here is the BBC article about the preparation for the Beijing Olympics and also a flickr group dedicated to funny examples that have been photographed.

Take a look at http://www.engrish.com. It’s a website that’s dedicated to all things badly translated in Japan. Most teachers who’ve been working in Japan know this website and could find you examples of bad English within minutes. If someone paid us all to make proper signs in Asia then it wouldn’t be funny, but we’d be far richer and the English would be easier on the brain.
