Can You Speak… Rotating Header Image

The goodness of Dr Seuss

Everybody loves Dr Seuss, he’s a worldwide phenomenon, and even my spell-check knows how to spell his name. But should he be used to teach English? I had this discussion with a fellow teacher after one of my students bought one of his books. Sure, we loved them as kids, but I can’t say they have the best grammar to be teaching people learning English. Between the backwards sentences, made-up words, and nonsensical stories, I found it quite confusing to try to explain. So, why does it work on native speakers as kids, but not for all? Or does it work for all?
To find the people the completely disagree with me, you only need to do a quick search in Google. One of the better pages I found is here.
